About our Trust and the NHS

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of west Berkshire.

This includes people living in Andover, Basingstoke, Eastleigh and Winchester as well as the surrounding towns and villages across Hampshire and parts of west Berkshire including Tadley to the north; Alton and Bordon to the east; Romsey and Chandlers Ford to the south, Stockbridge, Bishops Waltham and Alresford.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust came into being in January 2012 as a result of the integration of Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust, which achieved Foundation Trust status in 2006, and Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare Trust. It is an NHS provider and care is free at the point of delivery.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust employs around 6,000 staff and has a turnover of over £390 million a year (2017/18). There are around 15,000 public and staff members. As a Foundation Trust it has directly accountable to its members through the governors. Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.

Our Vision: to provide outstanding care for every patient

We all want to provide outstanding care. As an organisation we need to make sure that we can do that for every patient, which means not only the patients we see today, but the ones who will need us next year and in years to come.

It also means ensuring that patients are well cared for across the boundaries between our organisation and other providers.

In order to continue to provide outstanding care, we need to ensure that we focus on the care that we provide and the staff who care for our patients. We need to be responsible stewards of our financial resources ensuring that we do not spend too much in one area and deny future patients the care that they need. We need to be innovative. And we need to do all this within our CARE values, treating patients, colleagues and partners with compassion and respect. Our vision of providing outstanding care for every patient encompasses all these aspects.

NHS People Promise

This is a promise we must all make to each other – to work together to improve the experience of working in the NHS for everyone.

The themes and words that make up Our People Promise have come from those who work in the NHS. People in different healthcare roles and organisations have made it clear what matters most to them, and what would make the greatest difference in improving their experience in the workplace.

For many, some parts of the Promise will already match their current experience. For others, it may still feel out of reach. We must all pledge to work together to make these ambitions a reality for all of us, within the next four years.

Only by making Our People Promise a reality will the NHS become the best place to work for all – where we are part of one team that brings out the very best in each other.
